silk galore
hello all ~
april has flown by but i can’t say i’m not looking forward to the end of it .. there’s nothing planned for may and i’m so relieved. i love traveling and seeing friends and family, but i’m at heart a solitude-seeking person, so may oh may, i can’t wait till you come and normal life returns. and normal life is pretty great, i must say, as evidenced by these two pics:
this first photo shows the latest from my secret pal.. three, count ‘em three!, skeins of lovely lovely reynolds’ mandalay in a gee-orgeous color that is so up my alley. did i mention the yarn is 100% silk and has the most beautiful texture, both for the eye and the hand?! thank you so so much secret pal! i see a tank in my future, something lacey and feminine — i love this yarn!
the second is my branching out scarf which i started last night, catching up on some tv shows (they were just what i needed last night, the first night i had the place to myself in over two weeks: gilmore girls, desperate housewives, america’s top model). i love lace, what can i say. and the yarn is truly lovely, a silk/wool blend that just shines. and since the pattern calls for just one skein, who can’t help but love a $7 silky warm lace scarf? not me.
lastly, i’m finally get organazized, as my sisters says, and so for lunch i’m off to the post office, to finally send off that last secret pal package as well as a few other long-promised goodies (i’m looking at you, liz..), as well as pick up a mystery package that’s been waiting patiently for a few days — yay!

Andrea, thanks for the comment on my blog (confusability.com) about the significance of RAOK.
I have just finished producing a lot more data on knitting sites on bloglines and have produced a list of the 1,741 knitting feeds referenced (yours is in there).
Thanks again for the comment, it inspired me to produce this more detailed research.
(Next I might look to see if there is a link between knitting and cats).
Cheers
Chris
(PS.I tried your contact form, but I got an error) -
just wanted to add something here so the above comment makes sense to others: chris had a recent post on the popularity of bloglines among knitters (which came as a surprise to him, but not to me ;) ).
he listed the top 100 folder names among bloglines users, with knitting at #47. i noticed that ‘raok’ was #14, and so i commented that raok was also about knitting, particuarly about the r.a.o.k. knitting ring.
it’s an interesting post, check it out.~ andrea

Hi Andrea! I recently got some of that Mandalay silk too… I love it! Only one skein—I might whip it up into a lacy scarf for a friend’s bday… it is great though! I am tempted to go back to the LYS and get some more for me! :)

Hey, I am working on Branching Out too! In silky wool, since I received some not long ago. I decided to do two halves and graft them, so the leaves are all going the same way when it’s worn. I may regret this decision… ;)
That Mandalay is beautiful!! can’t wait to see what it becomes. :)~ Miri

I just looked at that Branching Out scarf, and I think it might be perfect for some cashmere that I spun this winter. I think it’ll make a good first lace project. Thanks for the inspiration, and I’m keeping my eye on that mailwoman! :)

SO SO SO glad you got the silk!!
I just couldn’t walk out of the store without it…it just said “send me to California please!!!”
Another package at the post eh??? Keep us posted! [grin] -
I just bought two skeins of Silky Wool from Loopy Yarn—rather than go to a knitting store, I figured I would just order the stuff online (shipping is cheaper than gas these days!). I plan on making two: Moss (me) and Charcoal (my sister).
I’m excited! Hopefully, by the time we see each other next week, it’ll be here…
FYI – on another note, we should prolly discuss how we want to coordinate the finding aid assignment? I’m excited about that, too (though that’s a little sad, no?)~ Lalitha
